SSE Airtricity (originally Eirtricity) founded in 1997, supplies and distributes electricity and gas to Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. They are the commissioning supplier of natural gas to all domestic and small commercial customers for the Gas to the West distribution network, and over 58% of the electricity they supply to customers is generated from their wind farms in Ireland.
They are now the largest wind generator in the entire all-island Ireland Single Electricity Market. They operate 26 wind farms generating 580MW of renewable electricity. They are also the second-largest energy supplier in Northern Ireland. SSE Airtricity provides gas to businesses via SSE Airtricity Gas NI Ltd, the leading provider of natural gas in Northern Ireland.
