GB Energy Supply is now entirely owned by Co-operative (Co-op) Energy who were appointed by Ofgem to take over the business when it ceased trading in 2016. GB Energy is no longer taking new business customers. Below we profile the various tariffs available to existing customers along with customer reviews.
GB Energy Fixed Electricity & Gas Tariffs
- Fixed price for 1 year.
- Electricity & Gas standing charge: 25 p/day, each.
- Electricity Rates: Day: 15p/kWh; Night/Off-peak/Evening/Weekend: 13p/kWh.
- Gas Rates: 4 p/kWh
SME Standard Variable Rates Tariff
- Prices subject to change.
- Electricity & Gas standing charge: 25 p/day, each.
- Electricity Rates: Day 18p/kWh; Night/Off-peak/Evening/Weekend: 16p/kWh.
- Gas Rates: 5p/kWh
Note their out-of-contract rates are currently the same as their variable rates above.
Company Profile: At one point, GB Energy Supply was one of the bigger independent energy suppliers in the UK, proving energy to over 140,000 homes and businesses. They had a reputation for offering extremely low-cost contracts. However, when wholesale energy prices, moved against them, they were forced to go into administration.
In late 2016, Co-operative Energy reached an agreement with Ofgem to take over all existing customer accounts. They currently allow new domestic customer sign-ups via the GB Energy website, but are not currently accepting new business customers (most likely because this is not something Co-op energy currently offers).
Therefore, if you were hoping to buy your business electricity or gas from GB Energy, you’ll have to look for another supplier.
