Company profile: EDF Energy claims to be the UK’s largest producer of low-carbon electricity. However, it should be noted that virtually all of this comes from nuclear rather than renewable energy.
It employs over 13,000 people and has 5.7 million residential and business customers and revenues of over £8 billion annually. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of state-owned French EDF (Électricité de France).
While EDF is an energy supplier for both homes and businesses it does not manage the network of towers and cables that distributes electricity. These are maintained and owned by distribution network operators (DNOs) which vary from region to region.
For SMEs EDF Energy provides a range of fixed price and flexible contracts for both electricity and gas. They also allow you to submit meter reading and renew your contract online.
For larger businesses they offer an additional range of services including performance contracts to hit energy efficiency targets, flex purchasing, and low-carbon energy plans. They also work with people looking to sell energy and can help you with Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
