The map above shows the intensity of vegetation across Africa over the year.
What: This gif shows vegetation intensity (or NDVI, Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) across Africa as a Time Series throughout the year. NDVI is used as a simple indicator of vegetation.
Features: You can see the annual trend very clearly as the high NDVI moves north to south but you can also see some areas which peak twice in the year (the Nile basin and at the tip of South Africa).
Data Source: I only created the gif, the full data source is found here: ftp://africagrids.net/250m/MOD13Q1/Version6/NDVI/ There is a readme with the full methodology.
Tools used: QGIS
Bonus: Album of months as images for viewing.
