Octopus Energy is one of the fastest-growing energy suppliers in the UK – with around five million domestic customers and business customers as of 2024, making it the fourth largest energy supplier in the UK.
In October 2022, Octopus acquired Bulb Energy from special administration and 70% of the way through migrating 1.7 million Bulb customers. On April 1st 2023, 60,000 M&S Energy customers joined Octopus also.
Octopus Energy also bought Shell's household energy businesses in the UK and Germany, providing energy for a further 1.4 million homes and 500,000 broadband service customers. The deal was completed in the last quarter of 2023.
As well as offering 100% renewable energy, Octopus Energy can offset carbon emissions from their gas customers for a small fee each month. In the last year, 26,900 tonnes of CO2 was prevented from being added to the atmosphere through customers choosing the Octopus low-carbon energy tariff.
Octopus Energy has a UK-based customer service centre, where call wait times are averaged at under one minute. They also offer no exit frees, transparent pricing, and a personalised service, based on your tariff.

Octopus Energy has a very high rating and customer response. On the review site Trustpilot, Octopus have an average rating of 4.8 stars out of 5. This comes from more than 171,000 reviews. Around 95% of reviews were either rated 4 or 5 stars. Only around 3% of reviews were rated as 1 star.
Comments from customers mainly focus on how great their customer service is, they were welcomed by a friendly team who resolved their issues quickly. The few negative comments are centred around being overcharged or poor communication between the company and the customer.

Octopus Energy Business offers a range of both fixed and variable rate tariffs for their business energy customers. Current plans include Octopus 12M Fixed, Flexible Octopus and Helpful Octopus.
Octopus only offers 100% certified renewable electricity.
They offer lower out-of-contract rates than many of their competitors.
